Welcome to the Food Forest

Feel: We observe the land closely, noticing the subtle shifts in the air, soil, and plants. It’s through this deep listening and connection that we learn what the land needs to stay healthy and vibrant—and, in turn, how it supports us.

Focus: Once we’ve felt what the land needs, we act with intention. Whether planting new life or removing invasive species, each step is thoughtful, nurturing the ecosystem and the community.

Flow: By moving in sync with natural cycles of growth, rest, and regeneration, we create a space that supports not only us, but future generations, building resilience that endures.

“The land is not just soil, it is a foundation of energy, life, and spirit. To care for the land is to care for ourselves.” — Robin Wall Kimmerer

Cultivating Connection and Abundance

Welcome to our small-scale agroforestry project rooted in the principles of balance, reciprocity, abundance, and community care. In 2020, our family embarked on this journey with a shared vision—to create a food forest that nourishes both the land and our local community.

Our mission is to create opportunities for connection while providing sustenance to the local community. We actively reconnect with the natural rhythms of the earth and embrace our inherent place within nature. The forest serves as a reminder of what it means to be human and to be part of something greater than the pursuit of capital.

The Story:

With great care, we’ve cleared the land by hand, preserving native plants while creatively managing invasive species. Our farm is home to a thriving array of both native and edible plants, birds, lizards, cats, dogs, and people. Through our action, we honor the land’s rhythms, focusing our work on long-term care and flowing with the cycles of nature.

Our accidental cat sanctuary began as an unexpected challenge. Feral cats are a significant issue here, and when a group of six moved onto the land, we knew we had to act responsibly. Over time, we’ve befriended them, so we could have them spayed and neutered. We provide food and shelter, building trust and ensuring they don’t contribute to the growth of the feral population. IIn return, they help keep populations of rats, hornworm caterpillars, and mongooses in check, supporting the balance of the ecosystem. Our two dogs, Pono, a loyal Poi dog, and Sita, a ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback, also play vital roles in safeguarding the forest from wild pigs.

This is more than just a food forest—it’s a living testament to what can be achieved when love, dedication, and a deep connection to the land come together. My partner, Jimmy, has been the backbone of this place, building our homes and nurturing the land with the same care and commitment he brings to everything he does. Nathan, my son, has been by our side from the beginning, ensuring we’re nourished with his delicious cooking. Macy, Nathan’s partner, is helping to establish the tea garden to create teas and tinctures from the land’s bounty. And Rain, our neighbor and friend, is a steady, reliable presence, always ready to lend a hand in the work that keeps our vision growing strong. Together, we are building more than just a place—we are cultivating a community rooted in connection, sustainability, and shared purpose.
