The Western United States is on fire, there are floods occurring all over the planet from stronger than ever storms, Florida is preparing to get hit by The Great War Goddess Irma, North Korea is firing "practice" missiles over Japan, thousands of our brothers and sisters are at risk of losing the only place they know to be home because the white man in the White House is fearful of anyone unlike him, Labor Day has become a holiday where the people with the "good jobs" get the day off so they can spend money at the Labor Day Sales while those that don't get paid holidays or paid days off work to serve those that do and Jewish families in Boulder County Colorado are being targeted as victims of hate crimes. As I sit typing this blog, my lungs coughing trying to expel the smoky air that has drifted thousands of miles and into my body reminding me of how connected we all really are, my heart is breaking. Last week I read at least three facebook posts from privileged people complaining that they were missing their flight and their vacations because their flight was cancelled in Houston...no mention of the devastation, no sorrow for those who lost their homes, but much for the missed mai tai on the beach.
This is not the world that I want to live in.
My husband and I commented the other day how very apocalyptic our world feels right now; fires, floods, famine, I think the nazis are standing in for the locusts...The word apocalypse is Greek and it means "an uncovering" a disclosure, a revelation of something hidden. Take a look around you, be honest and real; we are experiencing the apocalypse right now. All of the shadow and shit that we have been ignoring for far too long is coming into plain sight. We are all each witness to what is being uncovered and we all have a choice.
I want to live in a world where we remember that we are all ONE. A world where the presence of smoke in the air from fires burning thousands of miles away reminds us that we all breathe the same air and in this recognition instantly feel empathy for those that are living where these fires are burning. I want to live in a world where people own their flaws and embrace their shame and love others for doing the same; I want to live where people love themselves as much as the money they make. I want to live where the humans love the Earth and all She provides enough to preserve her and treat her with respect. I want to live in a world where eye contact isn't so uncomfortable and humans felt safe to fully open to their human-ness. I want to live in a world where people use their anger to fuel conscious change instead of shutting it down or letting it fly out in a distorted rage. I want to live in a world where we care about each other as much as ourselves.
A guy gave me the finger this morning while driving; he perceived my right of way as being in his. Instead of giving it back, I stuck both of my hands out the window and flashed him a heart. You know what? I looked in my rear view mirror and saw him smiling...I don't want to live in this world, so I'm working on creating the one I do want to live in. What about you?
